Quick answer: Payout tracks 115 class action settlements, with more than 1,526,973 claims filed through it to date. Most individual payouts land between $20 and $500. You do not sign up to join a consumer class action. If you fit the class definition, you are already included, and you get paid by filing a free claim form with the settlement administrator before the deadline.

What the open settlements pay
Two numbers matter when you pick which cases to file: what one claim typically pays you, and how big the fund behind it is. Both charts draw from the same live list as the table above.
Each bar spans the reported per-person range. Same data as the table above.
The pool each case pays claims from, largest first.
“Joining” works differently than most people think
In a typical consumer class action, the court certifies the case on behalf of everyone who fits the class definition: everyone who bought the product in a date range, everyone whose data was in the breach, everyone who paid the fee. If that describes you, you are a class member automatically. There is no sign-up sheet while the case is being fought, and usually nothing for you to do at that stage.
The moment that matters comes when the case settles. The court appoints an administrator, a claim form opens, and a deadline is set. File the form and you get your share when payments go out, typically 3 to 12 months after the deadline closes. Skip it and your share stays in the fund. Filing is free, always, whether you go to the administrator’s website directly or use an app. The full sequence is in our guide on how to join a class action lawsuit.
You also have the opposite choice: opting out. Leaving the class preserves your right to sue on your own, which matters only in the rare case where your personal losses are much larger than a typical claim. That is a decision for a lawyer, and Payout is a discovery app, not a law firm.
What kinds of cases are open in 2026
The active docket clusters into a few recurring categories:
- Data breaches. The steadiest source of settlements, like the AT&T data breach settlement and the Cash App data breach settlement. If your information was exposed, you were typically notified by email or letter.
- Privacy violations. Tracking, recording, or sharing without consent, like the Google Assistant privacy settlement.
- False advertising and pricing. Product claims that did not hold up, and price-fixing cases like the beef settlement. Many of these require no proof of purchase.
- Fees and overcharges. Bank overdraft fees, hidden charges, and subscription billing disputes.
Checking eligibility takes a minute per case: read the class definition and see if it describes you. Our guide on whether you qualify for a class action settlement covers the common definitions, and Payout does the matching for you, free.
New lawsuits vs. open settlements: where the money actually is
A newly filed class action makes headlines, but there is usually nothing for class members to claim yet. Cases commonly take 1 to 3 years to settle, and money only becomes claimable when a settlement is approved and the claim window opens.
So the productive habit is watching settlements, not filings. A settlement has three things a lawsuit does not: a fund, a claim form, and a deadline. That is the stage where 5 minutes of effort turns into a check.
How to never miss one
Deadlines are the whole game. Settlements open and close on their own schedules, and administrators do not always reach every eligible person by mail. Payout tracks all 115 settlements, matches new ones against your profile, and alerts you when a claim window opens or a deadline approaches. More than 1,526,973 claims have been filed through it. It is free to download, free to file with, takes no cut of your money, and does not guarantee eligibility, approval, or amounts. If you prefer doing it by hand, our guide on never missing a settlement deadline shows the manual routine.
