What Tinder was doing
For years, Tinder charged California subscribers different prices based on age. Subscribers under 30 paid a lower monthly rate for Tinder Plus and Tinder Gold. Subscribers 30 and over paid a higher rate for the same features. Tinder has publicly acknowledged testing age-based pricing, citing research that older users were more willing to pay.

Is the Tinder settlement legitimate?

To file the Verification Form or Payment Selection Form, you do not need to provide a Social Security number, your Tinder password, your bank account information, or any financial documents. The form asks for your name and contact information so the administrator can verify your class membership.

Why most eligible users have not filed yet
The settlement has been active since May 2026, but the r/lawsuitmoney post that got attention described finding it as discovering "an obscure Tinder class action." Most California Tinder users from 2015 onward have moved on. A settlement notice that arrives years after using an app, in an inbox full of promotional email, does not get opened.
The harm here also felt abstract. Tinder did not take money out of a bank account.
