What is the Oura Ring Lawsuit about?
A proposed class action, Surber v. Oura, Inc., No. 3:26-cv-08686, was filed August 20, 2026 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. It alleges Oura misled buyers by advertising that its rings measure sleep stages with up to 95% accuracy compared with a clinical sleep lab, when the rings lack the sensors needed to measure sleep stages directly and rely on estimates from heart rate, movement and temperature. The complaint proposes a nationwide class of people who bought an Oura Ring 4, Oura Ring 4 Ceramic or Oura Ring 5 in the United States, plus a California subclass, and seeks restitution, damages and changes to Oura's advertising. Oura disputes the allegations and has moved to compel arbitration; a hearing is scheduled for October 29, 2026. As of October 22, 2026, the allegations remain unproven, no class has been certified, and there is no settlement, official claim form, payout amount, or claim deadline. This is pending litigation, not an open settlement. Any future claim availability, eligibility, timing, or payment would depend on court rulings and official administrator instructions. Payout does not administer the litigation, determine eligibility, or guarantee that a settlement or payment will become available.
