Los Angeles Times Communications LLC has agreed to a $3.85 million settlement resolving claims that it violated the California Invasion of Privacy Act (CIPA) by installing third-party trackers — the TripleLift Tracker, GumGum Tracker, and Audiencerate Tracker — on website visitors' browsers without their consent to monitor internet usage. Anyone who accessed the LA Times online via its website (www.latimes.com or subdomains) or mobile app while in California between January 31, 2023 and December 19, 2025 may be eligible for a pro rata payment estimated between $40 and $217 depending on the number of valid claims filed. No proof of purchase or website access is required. Claims must be submitted by May 20, 2026. Eligibility, claim review, payment timing, and any payment amount are determined by the settlement administrator, court-approved terms, or applicable refund program. Payout does not administer the settlement, determine eligibility, or guarantee payment.
