What is the Costco Free Shipping Settlement about?

A class action lawsuit (Zaimi v. Costco Wholesale Corporation, Case No. 2:25-cv-01076) was filed June 10, 2025, in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington. The complaint alleges Costco promises free shipping on Costco.com orders — displaying '$0.00' as the shipping charge — while actually hiding delivery costs in inflated online prices, so the same items cost more online than in Costco warehouses. Plaintiff Christina Zaimi says she paid $2,349.99 for a couch on Costco.com that sold for $2,099.99 in-store — $250 more despite the free-shipping promise. The 24-page complaint brings nine claims, including breach of contract, breach of express warranty, and violations of the Washington Consumer Protection Act and California's False Advertising Law, Consumer Legal Remedies Act, and Unfair Competition Law, on behalf of a proposed nationwide class of Costco.com purchasers. On April 28, 2026, the court denied Costco's motion to dismiss, ruling the deception theory was plausible and allowing the case to proceed toward class certification. The case is brought by Dovel & Luner, LLP. This is a lawsuit, not a settlement; no claims process or payout information exists at this time. This listing may involve a proposed or pending settlement. Final approval, claim availability, eligibility, timing, and any payment depend on court approval, administrator instructions, and final settlement terms. Payout does not administer the settlement, determine eligibility, or guarantee payment.
