What is the Capital One interest rate settlement about?
The lawsuit alleges that Capital One froze interest rates on legacy 360 Savings accounts while quietly offering a nearly identical 360 Performance Savings account at much higher rates to new customers, costing existing savers the difference. Capital One denies wrongdoing but agreed to a $425 million settlement fund, and the settlement also requires it to match 360 Performance Savings rates on the old accounts going forward, relief the plaintiffs value at over $1.2 billion in total.
There is nothing to file. Anyone who held a Capital One 360 Savings account at any point from September 18, 2019, through June 16, 2025, is in the class automatically, and payments of $5 or more go out as checks or electronic payments to primary account holders at their last known address. The opt-out deadline passed on March 30, 2026.
The court granted final approval on April 20, 2026, and payments were scheduled to start around July 21, 2026. They did not: a class member appealed in June 2026, seeking to undo the settlement and return the case to litigation. Per the official settlement site, all payments will be substantially delayed as a result, potentially by over one year.
