What is the Tinder age discrimination settlement about?

The Tinder age discrimination class action — Candelore v. Tinder, Inc. — alleges that Tinder violated California's Unruh Civil Rights Act and Unfair Competition Law by pricing Tinder Plus and Tinder Gold subscriptions higher for older users. The lawsuit claimed Tinder charged users over age 28 or 29 approximately twice the monthly rate charged to younger users for the exact same premium features, with no legitimate justification for the age-based pricing difference.

Tinder denied wrongdoing, but after years of litigation the Superior Court of California granted final settlement approval. The $60.5 million non-reversionary fund covers approximately 268,000 California class members. Payments are calculated on a hybrid basis: 70% of the net fund is distributed equally among all participants (per capita), and 30% is allocated based on each person's total Tinder payments during the class period (pro rata) — so users who paid more will generally receive a larger share.

Because settlement payouts have already been calculated for most class members who received direct notice, no traditional claim form is required. Instead, eligible class members must choose their preferred payment method and, if they did not receive direct notice, submit a Verification Form to confirm eligibility by August 18, 2026.
