What is the Labcorp data breach settlement about?

The Labcorp AMCA data breach settlement (In re: American Medical Collection Agency Inc. Customer Data Security Breach Litigation, MDL No. 19-md-2904) resolves claims that Laboratory Corp. of America Holdings (Labcorp) failed to ensure the American Medical Collection Agency — a third-party debt collector it used to process patient billing — adequately protected sensitive personal information. Between August 1, 2018 and March 30, 2019, AMCA's systems were breached, potentially exposing names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, addresses, phone numbers, and financial account information of approximately 7.7 million Labcorp patients.
