What is the BMW defect settlement about?
The class action lawsuit, Craft v. BMW of North America LLC, et al. (Case No. 2:24-cv-06826-WJM-CF), alleged that certain 2019 and 2020 BMW SUVs — the X3, X4, X5, X6, and X7 — were manufactured with defectively sealed shark-fin antenna modules on the roof. Plaintiffs claimed the faulty seal allowed water to enter the antenna housing, causing corrosion and damage to GPS receivers, radio modules, and other electronics.
BMW denied any defect or wrongdoing but agreed to settle to avoid prolonged litigation. The settlement received preliminary court approval on March 2, 2026, with a final approval hearing scheduled for July 28, 2026. In addition to reimbursing past repair costs, BMW will perform no-charge antenna seal repairs at BMW centers for 60 days after final approval, and then extend the new vehicle limited warranty to cover this specific component for up to 10 years or 120,000 miles, whichever comes first.
