What is the Ashley Furniture product defect settlement about?

The class action lawsuit, Todd v. Ashley Furniture Industries, LLC (Case No. 3:24-cv-00615), filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin, alleged that Ashley Furniture and its related brands — Nectar, DreamCloud, and Siena (sold through Resident Home LLC) — sold mattresses that used fiberglass as a fire-retardant material hidden in the inner cover. Plaintiffs claimed that when the outer mattress cover was removed for washing or if it wore over time, fiberglass particles could escape and spread throughout the home, causing skin, eye, and respiratory irritation and requiring costly professional cleaning.

The defendants denied any wrongdoing but agreed to settle the case for $9 million to compensate affected consumers and avoid prolonged litigation. The settlement covers an estimated 6.2 million consumers nationwide. Eligible class members receive one product voucher per affected mattress purchased, redeemable on the defendants' brand websites. The voucher amount is determined pro rata — the total fund divided by the number of valid claims submitted.

A final approval hearing is scheduled for September 24, 2026. Consumers who received a notice email can file their claim without any documentation. Those who did not receive a notice must submit proof of purchase such as a receipt, store record, or a photo of the mattress label showing the SKU, item number, or serial number.
