What is the Toyota Forklift emissions settlement about?

The lawsuit alleges that Toyota Material Handling and Toyota Industries misrepresented the emissions produced by certain internal-combustion forklifts built from 2007 through 2021. Toyota denies the claims. The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California approved the $299.5 million settlement after a final approval hearing on July 10, 2026.

The settlement offers cash, one free service-plan visit for each operable eligible forklift in the United States, and a new-parts warranty if Toyota offers an approved recall for the covered engines by October 31, 2028. Cash amounts depend on valid claims and whether multiple class members claim the same forklift.
