What is the Penn Medicine privacy settlement about?

The Penn Medicine class action settlement resolves a lawsuit alleging that the University of Pennsylvania Health System deployed advertising and analytics tracking pixels on its myPennMedicine patient portal. The lawsuit claimed those pixels transmitted patients' personal health information to third parties without authorization, in violation of privacy laws. Penn Medicine denies wrongdoing but agreed to pay up to $9,250,000 to settle.

The class covers approximately 756,723 individuals who accessed the myPennMedicine portal between January 23, 2021, and January 23, 2023, and had a Pennsylvania address on file at the time. If you received a settlement notice or accessed the portal during that window, you may be entitled to a cash payment of up to $15.
