Fortnite Unwanted Charges Settlement

Epic Games agreed to pay $245 million after the FTC alleged it used deceptive "dark-pattern" tactics that led Fortnite players—many of them children—to make unwanted in-game purchases and locked some users out of their accounts when they disputed charges. U.S. players who filed valid claims by the July 9 2025 deadline will receive refunds; the first wave of 969,173 payments totaled more than $126 million, with additional payments expected in 2026. Eligibility, refund timing, and any payment amount are determined by the FTC or refund administrator. Payout does not administer the refund program, determine eligibility, or guarantee payment.

• Child made unauthorized credit-card charges between 2017-01-01 and 2018-11-30
• Account locked after disputing wrongful charges between 2017-01-01 and 2022-09-30
• Must be a United States resident; claims had to be filed by 2025-07-09
