Bartz v. Anthropic – Copyright Settlement
Potential cash payment for alleged Anthropic training use of copyrighted books.
Description
Anthropic PBC agreed to a $1.5 billion settlement resolving claims that it downloaded copyrighted books from LibGen and PiLiMi to train its AI models. Legal or beneficial copyright owners of books included in the official Works List can submit a claim for a cash payment. The fund will be divided pro rata among valid claims (the site estimates roughly $3,000 per work before fees and costs), and the claims deadline is March 23, 2026. Eligibility, claim review, payment timing, and any payment amount are determined by the settlement administrator, court-approved terms, or applicable refund program. Payout does not administer the settlement, determine eligibility, or guarantee payment.
