What is the Verizon class action settlement status?

The Verizon Administrative Charge Settlement finished accepting claims on April 15, 2024. The court granted final approval in 2024, appeals were resolved, and payments started arriving in January 2025. This is now a payment-history question for people who filed, not a new claim opportunity.

The case is Esposito et al. v. Cellco Partnership d/b/a Verizon Wireless. Plaintiffs alleged that Verizon unfairly charged and inadequately disclosed monthly administrative fees on postpaid accounts. Verizon denied wrongdoing and agreed to the $100 million settlement without admitting liability.

Old articles still say customers “could claim up to $100.” That language described the offer before the deadline. It does not mean an open form exists today. Any current page asking for money to file this claim conflicts with the court-authorized notice, which made April 15, 2024 the deadline.

Who qualified for the Verizon settlement?

The class covered U.S. consumers who had Verizon postpaid wireless or data service and paid an Administrative Charge during the covered period. Being a Verizon customer by itself was not enough. The account had to meet the service, charge, date, and filing requirements.

RequirementWhat the notice said
Customer typeA consumer with postpaid wireless or data service
LocationUnited States, based on the account holder's last known billing address
Covered chargeAdministrative Charge or Administrative and Telco Recovery Charge
Class periodJanuary 1, 2016 through November 8, 2023
Claim deadlineA valid claim submitted by April 15, 2024

The official notice was sent because Verizon's records identified likely class members. It included a Notice ID and confirmation code for online filing. People could also mail a form. Neither route is open now, and finding an old notice does not restart the deadline.

How was the Verizon settlement payout calculated?

The notice described a $15 base allocation for each valid account plus $1 for every month the covered administrative charge was paid. The stated cap was $100. The agreement also allowed payments to be reduced proportionally when the total value of valid claims exceeded the available fund.

That reduction language mattered. CBS News reported in January 2025 that customers posted payments under $15, including a screenshot of a $2.37 prepaid Mastercard. CBS also said Verizon had not explained why those reported payments landed below the settlement's stated base amount.

The phrase “up to $100” was always a cap, not a promise. Time with Verizon affected the starting calculation, but the number of approved claims and money available affected the final payment. No claimant was guaranteed $100 just for having a qualifying account.

What did Verizon customers actually receive?

Public reports centered on small payments and confusing delivery messages. In an r/ClassActionSettlement thread about Venmo, the poster wrote, “My $13.33 was supposedly sent to Venmo.” The discussion focused on locating and accepting the payment.

Another Reddit payment-email thread included a commenter who said, “Mine was for $14.81.” A separate r/classactions discussion included a report of a $14 Verizon payment sent through PayPal.

Those are personal reports, not official payment records. They are useful because they show the real sticking points. People expected as much as $100, received an unfamiliar email or electronic-payment alert, and then wondered whether a payment around $14 was legitimate.

Local CBS stations also posted on X when payments began. Those reports are consistent with the January 2025 news coverage, but social posts cannot confirm an individual claim. A claimant should match the amount and delivery method against the choice made on the original claim.

How can you verify a Verizon settlement payment?

Start with the records from the claim you filed in 2024. Match the sender, payment method, account details, and settlement name before accepting money or entering information. A real settlement payment never requires an upfront release fee, gift card, or cryptocurrency transfer.

  1. 1. Find your claim confirmation

Search email and saved files for your Notice ID, confirmation code, filing date, and selected payment method. A person who never filed does not become eligible because a message arrived later.

  2. 2. Match the exact case name

The message should refer to the Verizon Administrative Charge Settlement or Esposito et al. v. Cellco Partnership. Verizon has faced other cases with different classes and rules.

  3. 3. Check the delivery method

Compare the message with the check, electronic payment, or prepaid card selected during filing. An unexpected method deserves another look before you open a link.

  4. 4. Refuse any fee request

Filing and receiving a class action settlement payment are free. A demand to pay money before releasing the Verizon funds is a scam signal.

  5. 5. Use saved administrator details

If a payment failed, use the phone number or email from the original court-authorized notice. Do not rely on contact information supplied only by an unsolicited message.

Can you file a late Verizon settlement claim?

The public claim deadline passed more than two years ago. The settlement notice does not provide a standing late-claim process for people who simply missed April 15, 2024. Payout cannot reopen the form, submit a replacement claim, or recover money from the administrator.

Be careful with search results that still use present-tense language such as “claim now.” Some old news pages keep their original headlines after a deadline. Check the date in the article and the date in the court-authorized notice before sharing personal information.

If you filed on time and had a delivery problem, that is different from filing late. Use your confirmation and administrator correspondence to ask about that existing claim. Payout is a settlement-discovery app, not the settlement administrator or a law firm, and it does not give legal advice.

How can you avoid missing the next deadline?

Payout organizes active settlements and deadlines in one place. Review each class definition and official claim form while filing is still open. Filing is free, and Payout never guarantees that a claim will be approved or what it will pay.
