What is the current TransUnion credit report settlement?

Brooks v. Trans Union, LLC is the open $8.31 million case. The lawsuit alleged that Trans Union sold reports showing bankruptcy remarks on individual credit accounts even though the public-record section did not show a bankruptcy filed within the prior 10 years. Trans Union denies violating the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

The case number is 2:22-cv-00048-KSM in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. The court granted preliminary approval on July 6, 2026. The court still has to decide whether to grant final approval at a hearing scheduled for December 2, 2026.

Use the official Brooks v. Trans Union settlement website for the claim form, notice, court documents, and administrator contact details. The site states that it was authorized by a federal court.

Who qualifies for the TransUnion settlement?

You may qualify if Trans Union sold a consumer report about you between January 6, 2020, and January 31, 2023, and that report put a bankruptcy remark on an account without a matching bankruptcy in the public-record section. The official class definition also limits the class to reports with no government-held bankruptcy record from the prior 10 years.

Official requirementWhat to check
Report sold to a third partyA lender or another third party received the Trans Union report.
Covered report datesThe sale happened from January 6, 2020, through January 31, 2023.
Bankruptcy remarkA specific account or tradeline carried a bankruptcy remark.
No recent public recordNo government-held bankruptcy filing existed within the prior 10 years.

The administrator split eligible people into the No Bankruptcy Group and the Aged Bankruptcy Group. Your mailed or emailed notice names your group beneath the unique claim number and PIN. The online form also shows the group after those credentials are entered.

How much is the TransUnion settlement payout?

The official estimates range from $100 automatically to about $1,000 with a valid claim. No Bankruptcy Group members are scheduled for $100 without filing and about $1,000 if they file. Aged Bankruptcy Group members must file to receive an estimated $350. Final checks may be lower or higher.

  • No Bankruptcy Group without a claim
The official notice provides for an automatic $100 check if the settlement becomes final.
  • No Bankruptcy Group with a valid claim
The current estimate is approximately $1,000, in addition to the automatic benefit.
  • Aged Bankruptcy Group with a valid claim
The current estimate is approximately $350. This group receives nothing without a valid claim.

Those figures depend on how many valid claims arrive and what the court approves for administration, fees, expenses, and the class representative. The $8.31 million fund is not divided into equal $1,000 checks for everyone. The administrator will calculate final amounts after the claim count is known.

How do you file a TransUnion settlement claim?

File through BrooksBankruptcyClassAction.com by October 30, 2026. The online form asks for the unique claim number and PIN on your notice. You can also download a paper form and mail it to the administrator. The form is free, and the official site offers electronic payment or a paper check.

  1. 1. Open the official website yourself

Type BrooksBankruptcyClassAction.com into the browser. This avoids a copied link in an email, ad, or social post.

  2. 2. Find your claim number and PIN

Both appear on the settlement notice. They identify you and tell the form which payment group applies.

  3. 3. Complete one claim form

Enter the requested contact and payment details. Follow the mailed-form instructions if you prefer a paper submission.

  4. 4. Submit by October 30, 2026

Finish the online form by the deadline or postmark a paper form as the official instructions require.

  5. 5. Save the confirmation

Keep the confirmation page, claim number, and any administrator email together. You may need them when payment updates begin.

Why are people confusing different TransUnion settlements?

At least two widely discussed TransUnion credit-report settlements use different deadlines and payment rules. The older Norman case created a $23 million fund over disputed hard inquiries and had a June 24, 2025 claim deadline. The open Brooks case concerns bankruptcy remarks, has an $8.31 million fund, and closes October 30, 2026.

That overlap explains conflicting search results. A headline about a $23 million TransUnion settlement does not describe the open Brooks form. Match the case name and number before reading any amount or deadline. The Brooks case number ends in 00048-KSM.

A Reddit thread about the $23 million case still appears for broad TransUnion searches. Another r/classactions commenter wrote, “I got $387. Is this legit or phishing?” The amount alone cannot verify a payment. The case name, official domain, and administrator details can.

How can you verify a TransUnion settlement notice?

A real Brooks notice should match the official case name, number, administrator domain, and October 30 deadline. Start on the official site, then compare every detail in the message. The administrator does not charge a fee to file or receive a payment.

The official homepage lists Continental DataLogix as the settlement administrator and publishes the phone number (888) 279-4003. Contact details copied into an unsolicited email are not enough. Find them on the official site before calling or replying.

Posts on X have repeated the $8.31 million figure while broader TransUnion posts still discuss the older $23 million case. Social posts are useful alerts. They do not replace the administrator. Never send a password, pay a release fee, buy gift cards, install remote-access software, or move money to receive a settlement check.

When will TransUnion settlement payments arrive?

The official site does not give an exact payout date. The court scheduled the final approval hearing for December 2, 2026. Payments can start only after approval and the resolution of any appeals. The administrator must also finish reviewing claims and calculate the final amounts.

Electronic payment is available to people who select it through the online process. A paper check goes to the address on the claim form or the address Trans Union has on file, depending on the group and filing choice. Use the official address-verification page if your mailing address has changed.

How can you track settlement deadlines?

Payout collects active settlements and their deadlines in one place so you can review a claim before it closes. Filing is free. Payout is a discovery app, not a law firm, and it does not give legal advice or guarantee eligibility, approval, timing, or an amount.
