Nissan CVT Settlement Status and Benefits

ByConnor Burd

The Nissan CVT settlement claim deadline for covered Murano and Maxima owners was July 3, 2025, so new reimbursement claims are closed. The settlement extended CVT coverage to 84 months or 84,000 miles and offered qualifying repair reimbursements, but it did not promise every owner a $5,000 check.

What is the Nissan CVT settlement status?

The Beaver v. Nissan reimbursement deadline passed on July 3, 2025. The official administrator still publishes the settlement terms and case documents, but the standard claim form is no longer open. Owners with a claim submitted on time can use the administrator's contact page for an account-specific status question.

The case covered the continuously variable transmission in non-hybrid 2015-2018 Nissan Murano and 2016-2018 Nissan Maxima vehicles. A person had to purchase or lease a covered vehicle in the United States or its territories before April 4, 2025. Model, year, original service date, mileage, and repair timing all mattered.

Use the official Murano Maxima CVT settlement website for the controlling details. Nissan has faced other CVT cases with different models and dates. A notice for an Altima or Rogue does not prove eligibility in this Murano and Maxima case.

How much did Nissan CVT owners receive?

There was no flat Nissan CVT settlement payout for every vehicle owner. The settlement offered full reimbursement for qualifying work performed at a Nissan dealer. Qualifying work completed at an independent automotive facility was reimbursable up to $5,000. The repair also had to fall within the extended 84-month or 84,000-mile window.

The settlement also offered a $1,500 voucher to certain current and former owners whose Nissan warranty records showed two or more transmission assembly or ATCU repairs or replacements. An eligible person who also qualified for repair reimbursement had to choose one benefit. The voucher and reimbursement could not both be collected.

A viral headline said the case ended with $20,000 for drivers. That number referred to four named plaintiffs receiving $5,000 service awards each, not a $20,000 pool for the entire class. In a widely discussed r/cars thread, commenters repeatedly corrected the headline and pointed readers back to the repair reimbursement terms.

Which Nissan models qualified?

The Beaver settlement class was narrow. It included 2015-2018 Murano and 2016-2018 Maxima vehicles equipped with a CVT, excluding hybrids. Purchase or lease had to occur before April 4, 2025, in the United States or its territories. Owning another Nissan model did not place someone in this class.

Altima, Sentra, Versa, Rogue, Pathfinder, and Infiniti owners may remember separate Nissan settlements. Those cases use their own class definitions and warranty periods. Match the vehicle identification number and model year to the correct official settlement site instead of assuming every Nissan CVT falls under one agreement.

What did the extended warranty cover?

The settlement extended the new vehicle limited warranty for the transmission assembly and Automatic Transmission Control Unit to 84 months or 84,000 miles, whichever came first. Covered transmission components included the valve body and torque converter. The clock ran from the vehicle's original in-service date, not from the settlement date or a used-car purchase.

A qualifying prior repair occurred after the original powertrain warranty ended but before the earlier of 84 months or 84,000 miles. Work done outside that time or mileage range did not become reimbursable merely because a CVT failed. Records such as invoices, mileage, repair date, and the shop name were central to a reimbursement review.

That cutoff is the complaint owners keep raising. One r/Nissan owner wrote that a dealer said the settlement did not apply because the vehicle sat outside the extended warranty. Later commenters described mixed results from asking Nissan corporate for goodwill assistance. Goodwill is discretionary and separate from a settlement benefit.

Can you still file a Nissan CVT claim?

A new reimbursement claim cannot be filed through the ordinary Beaver settlement process in 2026 because the July 3, 2025 deadline passed. A person who filed on time can contact the administrator about that existing submission. A covered vehicle still within the extended warranty limits should be taken to an authorized Nissan dealer for warranty evaluation.

Do not pay a company to reopen the deadline. Filing a class action settlement claim is free, including directly through the administrator. A third party cannot create eligibility, change the mileage on a repair invoice, or override a court-approved deadline.

Late discovery is a real problem. In the r/cars discussion, one person simply wrote, “Lemme guess. I missed it.” A July 2026 Pathfinder owner asked a similar question after a transmission failure, but that vehicle concerned a different settlement. Check the exact case before relying on another owner's deadline.

What can owners check now?

Owners can identify the exact vehicle, compare it with every official class definition, collect the repair history, and contact the correct administrator or Nissan customer service. These steps do not promise coverage. They prevent a person from confusing an expired settlement claim with an active warranty or a discretionary goodwill request.

  1. 1. Confirm the model year and VIN

Read the registration and VIN rather than relying on the year the vehicle was purchased. Used cars may have entered service years before the current owner bought them.

  2. 2. Find the matching settlement

Use the case name and covered models on the official administrator site. Beaver applies to listed Murano and Maxima vehicles. Other Nissan cases are separate.

  3. 3. Gather every repair record

Keep invoices, dates, mileage, diagnostic codes, payment receipts, and dealer communications together. Those records show whether work fell inside a warranty period.

  4. 4. Contact the right party

Ask the settlement administrator about a timely claim. Ask an authorized Nissan dealer about warranty coverage. A goodwill request goes through Nissan and is not guaranteed by the settlement.

  5. 5. Get the decision in writing

Save the reason for approval or denial, along with any repair warranty. Written terms are easier to review than a phone summary.

What do Nissan owners say happened?

Owner reports show why the exact warranty and repair record matter. One r/Nissan poster reported paying an $8,013.39 dealer bill for a 2023 Maxima transmission, then receiving full reimbursement from Nissan corporate after submitting receipts. That vehicle was not part of the Beaver model-year class, so the account describes corporate assistance rather than proof of a settlement payment.

In the same r/Nissan thread, other owners reported partial coverage, denials, and vehicles just outside warranty limits. One commenter said Nissan covered 50% after the vehicle was two months outside the extension. These are firsthand reports, not published settlement rules.

The recurring language is practical: owners ask whether the car is covered, whether mileage defeats the claim, and whether Nissan corporate can help after a dealer says no. Start with the official terms. Use owner experiences to prepare questions, not to predict an outcome.

How can you catch the next settlement deadline?

Payout organizes active class action settlements so you can check new claims before their deadlines pass. Filing is free through the official administrator. Payout is a discovery app, not a law firm, and it cannot guarantee eligibility, approval, or an amount.
