Which GM lawsuit does this update cover?
This update covers Siqueiros et al. v. General Motors LLC, case 3:16-cv-07244-EMC. Judge Edward M. Chen oversaw the case in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California. The plaintiffs alleged that certain LC9 engines consumed too much oil. GM denied wrongdoing and agreed to settle the case.
Search results mix this case with other GM disputes about transmissions, airbags, brakes, batteries and different engines. A headline that says only “GM class action” does not tell you which owners are covered. Match the case name, engine, vehicle year and state before relying on a payout figure.
The official site also links to Hampton v. General Motors LLC, an Oklahoma case. Hampton has its own terms. A person covered by an Oklahoma notice should follow that case page instead of using the Siqueiros dates or payment estimate.
Which vehicles were included in the settlement?
The settlement covered certain 2011-2014 Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban and Tahoe vehicles and GMC Sierra, Yukon and Yukon XL vehicles equipped with an LC9 engine. The vehicle also had to meet the applicable California, Idaho or North Carolina purchase and ownership rules.

How much did eligible GM owners receive?
The official FAQ says class members receive a pro rata share of the $150 million settlement amount. Before expenses, each share would be at least the $2,700 in damages awarded by the jury. After administration costs, attorney fees and other approved expenses, the administrator estimated that no class member would receive less than $2,149.
That $2,149 figure was an estimate, not a guaranteed check amount. The final calculation depends on the settlement terms and applicable class. People may also see articles calling the deal a $175 million recovery. The administrator’s own Siqueiros site identifies a $150 million settlement amount, so this page uses that official figure.
Do not pay anyone to “release” a GM settlement check. An eligible class member’s payment comes from the administrator. A request for a processing fee, gift card or cryptocurrency is a scam sign. The administrator can confirm whether a check number and mailing are connected to this case.
What are GM owners saying about the engine problem?
Owner discussions use blunt language about oil consumption and engine trouble. In an r/Silverado discussion about 5.3-liter engine issues, one owner wrote, “My 5.3 had lifter failure under 70k miles last year.” Another discussion described owners weighing repairs after lifter, valve and cam failures.
Those experiences explain why the topic gets attention, but they do not establish Siqueiros eligibility. A lifter failure on a newer Silverado may involve a different engine generation and a different alleged defect. The settlement at issue here concerned certain LC9 engines and specific state classes.
Posts on X have circulated broader GM engine complaints and lawsuit headlines. We did not find a verifiable X URL that added a reliable Siqueiros payment fact, so none is quoted here. The administrator’s page controls the payment dates and contact details.

2. Confirm your address
Tell the administrator if you moved after receiving the notice. A forwarded envelope can expire or go back to the sender.
3. Ask about the payment record
Request the issue date, mailing status and any reissue procedure. Do not send tax or banking details to an unverified address.
4. Save the reply
Keep the administrator's email, the date you called and any reference number. That record is useful if you need to follow up.
5. Check the paper check
If a check arrived, compare the case name and administrator before depositing it. Contact the administrator if it expired or was damaged.
